Have Your Say: Open House for Replacement of Trowbridge Falls Park Bridge

October 31, 2012 – The City of Thunder Bay Parks Division, along with JML Engineering Ltd., will be hosting a Public Open House information session outlining the proposed replacement of the Trowbridge Falls Park Pedestrian Bridge on Monday, Nov. 5 from 5-8 pm, at the Chapples Golf Course Club House.  A presentation by the Consulting Team will be made at 7 pm.

The existing bridge has been closed since the fall of 2010 due to structural deficiencies that were discovered during routine engineering inspections. In the summer of 2011, Sostratus Engineering prepared a preliminary report examining different options for a new bridge or refurbishing the old bridge. Based on this report, the Parks Division determined that a new pre-engineered steel truss bridge would be the most cost effective long-term solution. This summer, the City Parks Division released a Request for Proposals for the design, engineering and contract administration for a new bridge in Trowbridge Falls Park. JML Engineering was the successful firm.

At the Open House, citizens will have the opportunity to review and comment on the proposed works that will include the demolition of the existing bridge structure and the construction of a new three-metre-wide, pre-engineered steel truss pedestrian bridge, concrete abutments and access trails. Everyone is welcome and citizen input is encouraged.
