Irresponsible Pet Ownership Can Be Costly

November 24, 2011 – Fines totaling $4000 were assessed against two Thunder Bay dog owners on Nov. 23 in Provincial Offenses Court, for failing to prevent their dogs from running at large.

This conviction is the result of an incident that occurred when one of the dogs attacked another dog on private property, causing serious harm.

To ensure the safety of both the public and other pets, Animal Services reminds dog owners to keep their dogs leashed and/or confined to their property and not allow them to run at large.

Incidents of dogs running at large should be reported to your local Animal Services Centre. In instances where a dog is posing an immediate threat to public safety, the Police should be notified.
