Kite Festival Ready to Take Flight

May 22, 2012 – The 32nd Annual Kite Festival takes place on Sunday, May 27 at Chippewa Park, and the community is encouraged to attend. This award-winning family event has provided memorable experiences for kite flyers and watchers since 1981.

“It’s going to be a great day,” said Jean-Paul De Roover, Kite Festival Coordinator. “We’re all excited to spend the afternoon with our eyes pointed to the sky to watch all of the colourful kites.”

The event runs from 12 noon to 4 pm, with free activities including kite-building workshops, make-and-play areas, outdoor games and giant kite displays. There will also be face-painting and balloon animals by the Giggle of Clowns, demonstrations by the 84 Air Cadets, and musical performances by ‘Jim ‘n’ I’ and ‘Captain John & the Polka Pirates’.

Representatives from the Toronto Kite Fliers, the Kitchener-Waterloo Windclimbers and the New York Kite Enthusiasts are taking part again this year, and will be flying a stunning variety of giant kites.

Admission is free. Thunder Bay Transit will offer extended service to Chippewa Park every 40 minutes from City Hall and the Brown Street and Frederica Street transit stops.
