Kite Festival Ready to Take Flight

May 22, 2008 - Ready, set, go fly a kite!  Kites take flight on Sunday, May 25 for the 28th annual Kite Festival at Chippewa Park.  This award-winning family event has provided memorable experiences for kite flyers and watchers alike since 1981.

The Thunder Bay Kite Festival was named one of 'Ontario's Top 100 Festivals' in 2008 by Festivals & Events Ontario for excellence in the industry.

"Pick up a kite and give it a fly!" says Coordinator Cindy Orr. "We know that the Kite Festival is a favourite in the region and being named as one of Ontario's best reinforces our reputation. We're proud to welcome back the Toronto Kite Fliers and the Kitchener-Waterloo Windclimbers to perform demonstrations, work their magic in the skies and wow the crowds."

The event begins with an opening ceremony at 12 noon and runs until 4 pm. Activities will include craft-a-kite, aviation workshops, make and play areas, beach bubble blowing and special guests.  Kites will also be available for purchase.

Admission is free and Thunder Bay Transit will provide free shuttle service to Chippewa Park every 30 minutes from the Brodie Street Terminal and the Brown and Frederica transit stop.

The Kite Festival is produced by the City of Thunder Bay Recreation & Culture Division.  Sponsors include Tim Hortons, Subway Restaurants, Downtown Heart of the Harbour, The Chronicle-Journal, Korkola Design, Maverick Entertainment Group, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, 91.5 CKPR and Chartwell Select Thunder Bay.
