MPP Gravelle Announces Upgrades to Complex


July 3, 2009 - Michael Gravelle, MPP for Thunder Bay – Superior North, and Greg Rickford MP, for Kenora are pleased to announce today that the riding of Thunder Bay-Superior North will benefit from $4,057,554 in joint federal and provincial funding to improve community recreational infrastructure under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario (RInC Ontario) and Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC). Each level of government will be providing $2,028,777.

These projects will provide stimulus to the local economy through investments that will spur construction activity related to recreational infrastructure. Improving recreational facilities and services will also encourage higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building.

“I am extremely pleased that both senior levels of government are continuing to work together by providing significant resources for upgrades and additions for our Thunder Bay-Superior North recreational facilities," said Michael Gravelle, MPP for Thunder Bay-Superior North "These projects will not only create jobs here in the riding, but will have positive long-term social and physical implications throughout the region."

“We are pleased to work with our provincial partners to deliver funding that will create jobs and make a difference in the lives of residents throughout northern Ontario,” said Rickford. “These projects will bring communities together to get fit and have fun, as well as create local jobs, something this government is committed to doing.”

City of Thunder Bay: Canada Games Complex - Facility upgrades and renewal - $1,848,000
The Corporation of the Municipality of Greenstone: Zamboni Room Relocation - $73,000
The Corporation of the Municipality of Greenstone: Relocate Condenser/Roof Repairs - $40,000
The Corporation of the Municipality of Greenstone: Bleachers Upgrade - $28,000
The Corporation of the Municipality of Greenstone: Pool Lift - $6,000
Township of Schreiber: Recreation Complex Upgrades - $32,532
Municipality of Shuniah: McTavish Recreation Facility Construction - $39,890
The Corporation of the Township of Terrace Bay: Terrace Bay Memorial Arena Floor Replacement - $239,500
The Corporation of the Township of Terrace Bay: Terrace Bay Municipal Swimming Pool - $27,300
Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek (Gull Bay First Nation): Rink Enclosure Project - $957,534
Pays Plat First Nation: Rink Modification Project - $328,284
Pays Plat First Nation: Multi-Purpose Complex - $437,514
