Major Construction Project Closes Golf Links Road

April 29, 2013 – Stage I of the Golf Links/Junot Corridor road construction and widening begins Wednesday, May 1. Initial stages of the project will see Golf Links Road from the Harbour Expressway to Central Avenue closed to through traffic in both directions for up to 12 weeks. A posted detour will be marked.

A subsequent closure on May 8, will extend to the south closure limit of through traffic to William Street. At this point, only east-west traffic movements on the Harbour Expressway will be permitted. This closure will be in effect for approximately four weeks until temporary signalized traffic control at the Harbour Expressway intersection is re-established.

Project improvements include the following:

  • Road widening to four lanes
  • New sidewalks and curbing
  • Street lighting
  • Active transportation trails
  • Storm sewer and culvert drainage improvements
  • Sanitary sewer extensions
  • Utility relocations
  • Intersection improvements including new traffic lights turn lanes and ramps.

Local access to residences and businesses on Golf Links Road between the Harbour Expressway and Oliver Road will be maintained throughout the construction period. Initially this will be from access on Oliver Road or Central Avenue. Access to Confederation College and Fanshaw Street will be available from William Street. Re-routing of the Crosstown Transit bus route is proposed during this road closure period.

Other project stages will be announced as work proceeds. Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
