Make Time to Play this Family Day!


February 17, 2012 – The City’s Parks Division and the Recreation & Culture Division encourage everyone to get active and enjoy the many free or low-cost activities being offered on Family Day, Monday, Feb. 20.

“It’s a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends,” said Paul Fayrick, Manager – Parks Division. “Everyone is encouraged to celebrate and enjoy a fun and active Family Day at the many rinks, parks, pools, and facilities across the City.”  Families can enjoy tobogganing at Centennial Park or visit the redeveloped waterfront for a skate and to see the City’s newest installations of public art.

The following supervised outdoor rink sites will be open from 1 – 9 pm (weather-permitting):
Brent Park, James Street, Carrick, Wayland, Current River, West Thunder, Oliver Road, Chapples, North End, Charry Park, Volunteer Pool, Tarbutt, West End  

The Marina Park skating rink and Water Garden Pavilion facility will be open from noon to 9 pm.

Public/Family Recreational Swims will be held at Sir Winston Churchill Community Pool and Volunteer Pool from 1– 4 pm. Regular admission rates apply. The Canada Games Complex will also host a Public/Family Recreational Swim from 12 – 5 pm. Use of the Thunderslide is included with the price of regular admission for Family Day.

North McIntyre Community Centre, located at 2051 Government Road, will host a ‘Family Fun Day’ from 9 am – 4 pm. Activities include a pancake breakfast, crafts, snowshoeing, bucksawing, a skating skills competition, and many other games.
