May 31 Deadline to Purchase 2008 Pet Licenses

May 15, 2008 - City of Thunder Bay Animal Services reminds pet owners to purchase their pet's 2008 license, if they haven't already done so.

Our City By law, requires that all dogs, puppies, cats and kittens must be licensed by March 1 of each year.  This year, Animal Services has extended this deadline until May 31.

Effective June 1, Animal Services will implement a zero tolerance policy and pet owners will be fined if their pet does not have a current license.  The penalty for an unlicensed dog or cat is $155.

If your pet gets lost, a license may be its ticket home. When a pet is picked up with a City-issued license, Animal Services staff are able to quickly reunite the pet with its owner, reducing shelter costs and any trauma the pet owner may experience as a result of the loss of a pet. Discounts are available for animals that are spayed or neutered and/or have a microchip implant. In addition, a variety of outlets sell licenses allowing pet owners to easily comply with the City's By-law requirements.

Information on how and where to license a dog or cat, is available from the City of Thunder Bay Animal Services Centre at 684-2156 or from our website at www.thunderbay.ca/animals, which includes a list of locations, fees, forms and information to make licensing easier.

The Animal Services Centre, located at 882 Alloy Place, off Central Avenue, is open Monday through Friday from 11 am to 5 pm or Saturdays from noon until 4 pm.
