Mayor Thanks Partners In Evacuation Efforts

August 7, 2012 – The Emergency Operations Control Group met today to debrief the recent evacuation and repatriation of Sandy Lake First Nation residents who were forced from their homes as the result of forest fires last week. The 574 evacuated residents returned home over the weekend.

Mayor Hobbs extended his thanks to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue for their role in coordinating the response efforts. “Thanks also go out to the Province of Ontario for all the work that has been done over the past year to enhance coordinated response efforts during evacuations of northern communities.”

The City’s response as a host community was a partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, Aboriginal Affairs Northern Development Canada, Community Care Access Centre, Local Health Integration Network, Salvation Army and Emergency Management Ontario.
