Motion Seeks Deferral of Dawson Road Truck Traffic Discussion

March 30, 2012 – On Monday, April 2, City Council will consider a motion to defer the Dawson Road Truck Traffic agenda item to the April 16 meeting.

Deferring the motion – to establish a community safety zone along Dawson Road – to April 16 would allow McIntyre Ward Councillor Trevor Giertuga to be in attendance for the discussion.

On Feb. 6, Committee of the Whole passed a resolution referring this item to the Inter-Governmental Liaison Committee to consider a draft by-law relative to the truck traffic on Dawson Road.

The Inter-Governmental Liaison Committee considered this item at its Feb. 13 and March 12 meetings. The Inter-Governmental Liaison Committee passed a motion recommending that City Council consider establishing a community safety zone along Dawson Road relative to truck traffic, to increase speed limits gradually and double speeding fines along the route.

Approved Council agendas and meeting minutes are available on the City’s website at www.thunderbay.ca in the City Government section. City Council and Committee of the Whole meetings are held on Mondays and are open to the public. All meetings are held at City Hall and air live on Shaw TV Cable 10 and the City's website at www.thunderbay.ca/councillive.
