New Energy Requirements Could Impact Residential Projects

February 28, 2012 – New energy efficiency requirements in the Building Code could impact anyone building a house or putting on an addition.

“Changes vary depending on the design package that’s chosen. Generally, it will involve more insulation in the attic and maybe the walls,” said Des Stolz, the City’s Building Division Manager. “Also, the amount of window area in walls may be limited and windows will have to meet a certain energy standard. Furnaces, heat recovery ventilators and hot water tanks may also have to meet higher energy efficiency requirements than in the past.”

The City’s Building Division asks anyone planning a project this spring to call them at 625-2714 or 625-2577 if they have any questions.
