Officials Monitoring Weather Event on City Infrastructure

May 20, 2013 – Following steady precipitation over the last 24 hours, and more expected over the next few days, City staff have been closely monitoring the weather related event on City infrastructure.

“City infrastructure has been performing to our expectations,” said Darrell Matson, General Manager of Infrastructure & Operations. “Everything in our sewer systems is flowing properly.”

He added that staff have been on duty over the last 24 hours to monitor the situation, and additional staff are available if the situation worsens.

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority has issued a ‘Flood Watch’, which indicates the potential for flooding within specific watercourses and municipalities exists.

“City staff will continue to monitor the rain and the impact on City infrastructure in the days to come,” added Matson. “We are urging the public to continue to use caution in and around area waterways.”

Further updates will be issued as new information becomes available.
