Open House to Officially Launch “EarthCare”

June 12, 2013 – The City of Thunder Bay is hosting an EarthCare Open House this Thursday, June 13, from 5-7 pm at Mariner’s Hall inside the Water Garden Pavilion at Prince Arthur’s Landing. Along with a community update on future plans for the City’s Community Environmental Action Plan, this event will officially introduce EarthCare Thunder Bay – formerly EarthWise® Thunder Bay.

“The EarthCare Community Environmental Action Plan is the cornerstone document for creating a more sustainable and livable community,” said Councillor Andrew Foulds, Chair of the EarthCare Advisory Committee. “The Advisory Committee, in conjunction with the multiple working group partners, has been working diligently to develop new targets to help our community reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to improve our quality of life.”

The event will include opportunities for the public to network, socialize, catch up on the work of community partners through on-site displays, and take in some music and refreshments.

“We have an exciting year ahead of us,” said Brad Doff, Acting Sustainability Coordinator – Environment Division. “The Open House will provide a glimpse into the comprehensive and exciting initiatives we will be embarking on to create a more vibrant and resilient community.”

The event is open to the public at no cost. For more details, call the City of Thunder Bay Environmental Division or visit www.thunderbay.ca/earthcare
