Restoring Our Neighbours: Disaster Relief Committee Extends Fundraising Deadline

October 4, 2012 – The Thunder Bay Disaster Relief Committee is extending the fundraising deadline to Jan. 31, 2013.
As the fundraising deadline was closing in, many groups and organizations requested an extension to accommodate events that are planned in December that will benefit the Disaster Relief Fund.

“We have been approached by a number of people in the community indicating that they would like to direct money to the Disaster Relief Fund, but felt that the November 30 deadline was a little restrictive,” said Wayne Fletcher, Chair- Disaster Relief Committee.  “We also know that a number of corporations determine the direction for charitable giving early in the New Year and that extending the deadline would further support our ability to raise funds for those in need of assistance.”

Extending the deadline will impact the Committee’s ability to distribute funds to Disaster Relief applicants. As applications are coming in, it is clear that the claim adjustment process will take some time.

Every dollar the Disaster Relief Committee raises, the Province of Ontario will match by two - $1 becomes $3.

The Committee reminds people affected by the flood that the deadline for application forms for losses and damages are still due on Oct. 31.
