Safe Homes Assistance Targeted for Completion

September 26, 2012 – The City of Thunder Bay’s Safe Home Program that provided assistance with basement inspections, clean-up and furnace and hot water tank replacements after the May 28 flood emergency is targeted for completion by September 30, 2012.

“There were 455 homes registered with the Safe Homes Program that required assistance,” said Michael Smith, General Manager – Facilities & Fleet. “We are confident that everyone who registered with this program has received the assistance that they require.”

The program commenced within a week of the flood emergency, and the main focus of the ongoing clean-up was making homes safe and addressing any health issues. There were approximately 175 furnaces in total that needed to be replaced, with approximately 80 per cent already installed and another 15 per cent with scheduled installation dates this week.
