School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day - Friday

May 29, 2008 - Friday, May 30 has been proclaimed School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day - a day to recognize the work crossing guards do each day to keep our school children safe when crossing busy streets. This year's Appreciation Day coincides with Safe Kid's Week and the theme is pedestrian safety - something Crossing Guards take very seriously.

Adult crossing guards have been insuring safe crossing for children walking to and from school in our City since 1947, in what was then, Port Arthur. This year's annual event will mark the fourth celebration of Crossing Guard Appreciation Day. The proclamation outlines the important work crossing guards do every day, crossing children safely in all sorts of weather. Thunder Bay's Crossing Guards have maintained an outstanding safety record.

When you see a Crossing Guard on Friday May 30, please wave to acknowledge them or simply say `Thank You' for the fine work they do.
