South Core Parking Study: Invitation to Property Owners to Provide Public Parking


October 9, 2009 – The City of Thunder Bay is searching for property owners in the South Core interested in making their property available for public parking through a mutually beneficial arrangement with the City.

This action is part of a long-term parking management strategy being considered in the City’s ongoing Parking Study for the downtown area in conjunction with the developments of the new consolidated Court House and District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board Building. The long-term parking management strategy will contribute to the health and vibrancy of the downtown area. 

Requirements
Candidates interested in providing public parking must have available property that meets the following criteria:

  • The property is located within walking distance of the Brodie Street metered parking lot (at the corner of Brodie Street and Miles Street) or located within walking distance of the City Hall parking lot (at the corner of Brodie Street and Arthur Street), as shown in the key map.
  • The property has at least 35-40 available parking spaces or 20,000 square feet of surface area to create such spaces that could be leased for public use.

Interview Process
ENTRA Consultants will be conducting interviews by telephone with interested candidates the week of Oct. 13-16 between 9 am and 4 pm to obtain general information such as property location, current and future land uses on the site, and current leasing agreements.
