Summer in the Parks Concert Line-up Announced

June 15, 2010 – The Recreation & Culture Division today announced another fantastic lineup of live entertainment for the 2010 Summer in the Parks concert season. Eight outdoor concerts are planned featuring new acts, as well as returning favourites. Concerts take place at Marina Park on the Main Stage under the band-shell on Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm, beginning June 23.

“Summer in the Parks has become one of the most prominent community events throughout the summer that the whole family can enjoy,” said Jean-Paul De Roover, Summer in the Parks Coordinator. “We have worked with our Advisory Committee this season to bring a total of 23 acts of various styles and genres to the stage. They are sure to please audiences of all ages and tastes!”

The stage will come to life June 23, when the Roy Coran Jazz Big Band kicks-off the concert season. For over 35 years these accomplished musicians have opened the Summer in the Parks season and this year will be no exception. Also performing on opening night will be Mark Potvin’s Little Swing Band; a crowd favourite.

In addition to great music, Summer in the Parks evenings feature children’s activities, free draws and a variety of on-site concessions. There will also be an artisan market, with local artisans displaying and selling art in the park during the concert series. ‘Caricatures for Charity’ will also be returning to raise money for Shelter House.

The public is encouraged to take advantage of the Summer in the Parks Shuttle Bus that will be running from the Heart of the Harbour Parkade on Court Street and traveling through the downtown core. Concert goers can flag down the Summer in the Parks Bus anywhere along the route and will be dropped off at the festival area. There will be no general parking around the festival area, but accessible parking will be available inside the park with a valid permit.
