Swimmer Reaches Wawa

May 5, 2008 - With family and friends cheering her on, Lisa Galvin today reached her goal of swimming the distance from Thunder Bay to Wawa in the Canada Games Complex pool. Galvin is a participant in the `Swim the North Shore' Challenge which began in early May 2007. She is the first of more than 30 swimmers who initially took on the challenge to complete the 700 km distance.

Ms. Galvin often swims up to five times per week and logs up to 5 km per visit. A number of other participants in the program are on track to complete the route later this summer.

Challenge participants record the distance they swim each day and chart their progress along a map of the Lake Superior north shore.  It is an excellent, fun way for swimmers to set goals and stay committed to fitness.

Swim the North Shore is a great motivator for people to get into fitness, says Galvin. It's that extra little push that some people might need."

The first swimmer to complete the 700 km will win a $50 Keg Gift Certificate, a new bathing suit from North Country Diving, a $25 Gift Certificate from Play it Again Sports and a six-month membership at the Canada Games Complex.  Also, every participant receives a t-shirt once they complete the challenge.

The Canada Games Complex encourages swimmers to join the Swim the North Shore initiative. For more information call (807) 684-3335.
