Thunder Bay Residents Unite Together for Disaster Relief

September 20, 2012 – In the nearly four months since Thunder Bay's worst natural disaster in history, the community has pulled together to raise $1,046,908 for the Disaster Relief Fund.

Individuals, businesses and organizations raised the money through numerous events, employee donations that were matched by employers, retail store campaigns, the Thunder Bay's Got True Grit Golf Tournament, Loonie Days for Disaster Relief, charity concerts and financial donations through the Salvation Army, Canadian Red Cross and The United Way.

"The efforts of this community have been amazing," said Wayne Fletcher, Chair of the Disaster Relief Committee. "The flood has devastated many of our neighbours and we know the need to help restore some normalcy back into their lives will be in the millions. Just because the damage isn't as visible as it was in the days immediately surrounding the flood, there is still a critical need for support, especially as the cold weather sets in.”

Every dollar the Disaster Relief Committee raises, the Province of Ontario will match by two - $1 becomes $3.
