Update on South Core Parking as Courthouse Construction Starts

November 22, 2010 - The City of Thunder Bay is pleased with the announcement by Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of the Attorney General that construction of the new Consolidated Courthouse will start in the Downtown South Core.

The City is advising the community that over the next few weeks, as the contractor begins mobilizing equipment and working on site, parking will still be available in the following areas:

  • Archibald Street Lot accessed from Chapples Lane
  • Additional, on-street parking on Brodie Street
  • Victoriaville Parkade

Syndicate Avenue between Miles Street and Chapples Lane will be closed, and sidewalks along the west side of Brodie Street and south side of Miles Street will also be affected. The public is encouraged to use the sidewalks located across the street.

There will also be free, two-hour parking at City metres for Victoria Ave. BIA members the week before Christmas, beginning on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010. Notice of any temporary parking restrictions that may occur during construction will be provided by the contractor.

Once construction starts, the positive economic impacts on the community will be substantial through employment opportunities, purchased services and construction.  Certainly this development will be the anchor for revitalization in the South Core.
