Water Work on Distribution System

October 14, 2008 – Sewer and Water crews will be testing hydrants across Thunder Bay as part of the ongoing water distribution system maintenance program. The work will take place between Wednesday, Oct. 15 and Friday, Oct. 24.  City of Thunder Bay Sewer & Water crews will flush the water distribution system to clear the pipes and ensure the flow of clean fresh water through the system.

ADVICE TO RESIDENTS
The process may result in temporary discoloured water in the lines that deliver water to your home.  Your home or business may experience changes to:

  • Water pressure
  • Clarity of water
  • Taste or colour.

If you experience discoloured water please follow the steps below:

  • Do NOT open any HOT water taps.
  • Open one COLD water tap (a tap that does not have a water filter system attached to it) and allow the water to flow at a medium flow until the water runs clear.
  • Once the single COLD water tap is running clear, open all other taps including HOT water taps and flush until all water runs clear.
  • Running your cold water taps for five minutes will usually clear any discoloured water.

If you water does not run clear after following the procedure, call the Water Trouble Line at 684-2195 (8 am – 4:30 pm). After hours, weekends and holidays call 684-3117.

Thank you for your understanding during this work on the water supply system.
