Waterfront Expressions of Interest Released

May 8, 2009 – The City of Thunder Bay is releasing two expressions of interest (EOI) related to the development of Prince Arthur’s Landing at Marina Park.

The EOIs are the next steps in the process of sourcing local materials for construction and seeking a partner to develop and operate the new and existing marina.

“These are concrete steps that will start building this significant project with a maximum benefit to the local economy and take advantage of locally produced materials and products,” said Councillor Mark Bentz, Chair of Waterfront Development. “Ultimately, Prince Arthur’s Landing will be a gathering place for the community that is uniquely Thunder Bay.”

On Saturday, May 9, an EOI will be issued to develop a list of local and regional architectural building and landscaping materials. The City could also be interested in reclaimed building materials, green roof building materials, certified forestry products and local environmental, socially responsible and sustainable goods and products. The EOI closes on Tuesday, June 9. This list will be used by the consultants in determining the specifications in the detailed design for Prince Arthur’s Landing. It is anticipated that the buildings will be ready for construction by the spring of 2010, once the major earthworks and supporting infrastructure is completed.

On Saturday, May 16, an EOI will be issued for a new marina developer and operator to plan, design, construct, finance, market and operate a new 300 slip marina and to assume management of both the new marina and the existing marina operation of 256 slips. The EOI closes on Friday, June 30. EOI submissions will be reviewed to qualify bidders for a request for proposals (RFP) process.
