2007-05-10 Her Majesty's Canadian Ship Halifax Visits Thunder Bay

HALIFAX N.S., May 10, 2007 – The Commanding Officer and ship’s company of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Halifax are pleased to announce that the ship and crew will be visiting the City of Thunder Bay May 11-15.
The ship will arrive Friday, May 11 at 10 am and will be berthed at Pool 6 Dock.  The ship will be open for visitors May 12, 13, and 14 from 1-4 pm.  All visitors are asked to bring photo ID.
HMCS Halifax will be hosting an Enrolment Ceremony on Sunday, May  13 at 10:30 am  for new recruits joining the Canadian Forces, media are invited to attend the event.  Members of Halifax will assist with the Dew Drop Inn and P.R.O. Kids, in a renovation with Habitat for Humanity, and several other activities in the local Community.
While the ship is alongside in Thunder Bay, visitors can also visit a number of static displays that will be set up on the jetty, including the Naval Display Bus, Navy Diving gear, and Naval Boarding Party equipment.  Also on hand will be Canadian Forces Recruiters to answer any questions about careers in the Navy, Army or Air Force.  For further information on career opportunities visit www.forces.gc.
The ship, under the command of Cmdr. Scott Bishop, has a crew of 205 sailors. When the ship sails with its’ Sea King Helicopter, the crew is augmented by an air detachment of approximately 25 aircrew.  Halifax was the first of 12 frigates built and commissioned in Canada and its motto is “Ever Brave”.
