2006-03-08 - City Council Seeking Citizen Participation in Waterfront Development

March 8, 2006 – City Council announced today that it is seeking to appoint five Thunder Bay citizens to serve on the Waterfront Development Committee; a committee that will provide advice to Council on how best to develop the City’s waterfront.  As identified in the New Foundation Living Strategic Plan, waterfront development is a priority for the City and Committee applications must be received by March 31.

Says John Hannam, City Clerk; “Members of the Committee will assist in making recommendations to City Council on projects and initiatives for the development of waterfront lands, including Marina Park, that achieve a balance in development of ‘full mixed use potential’ (industrial, commercial, residential, and open space) in an environmentally and economically sustainable manner”.

Candidates with diverse backgrounds and interest in the future use of waterfront property to the overall benefit of the community are encouraged to apply.  Candidates will need to include their vision for the City’s 52 kilometres of the waterfront in their application and be prepared to attend one to two meetings per month for a term expiring November 30, 2009.

All nominations or applications must be received in writing on the approved forms available in the Office of the City Clerk, Third Floor, City Hall, 500 Donald Street East, Thunder Bay, Ontario P7E 5V3 by March 31, 2006.
