2007-04-24 Aon to Open New Playground in Chippewa Park

April 24, 2007 – Aon opened five playgrounds across the country today as part of its global 20th anniversary.  The playgrounds were built in Halifax, Sherbrooke, Grande Prairie, Victoria and in Thunder Bay’s Chippewa Park.

“Aon is proud to be part of the community of Thunder Bay, and we wanted to make a lasting contribution that families can enjoy,” said Bob Edgar, Vice President, Aon Reed Stenhouse.  “Our Thunder Bay office has a longstanding partnership and dedication to the community.  Thunder Bay isn’t just where we work, it’s where we live and we felt that building these playgrounds was a great way to say thank you for being so great to us.”

The playgrounds were part of global events as the company celebrated 20 years under the Aon banner.  Aon offices across the country and around the world held hundreds of special events and community outreach programs, celebrating this milestone.

“These events reflect the passion for service that defines Aon’s culture of people helping people,” said Chris Fawcus, President and CEO of Aon Reed Stenhouse. “We felt that this anniversary gave us a perfect opportunity to give back to Thunder Bay and share in its growth.”

“The new playground at Chippewa Park is a demonstration of Aon’s commitment to quality of life in Thunder Bay,” said Mayor Lynn Peterson.  “The addition of the playground will enhance an already great attraction.  Thunder Bay is proud to be one of the locations that Aon selected to help celebrate their 20th anniversary and we value their community partnership.”

The playgrounds have been funded by Aon, and will be built by PlayPower Inc., in cooperation with the local municipalities.  City officials, local families, children’s organizations and businesses will attend the opening of the playgrounds to help celebrate the new additions to their communities.
