2007-05-07 Project Manager Appointed for Waterfront Development

May 7, 2007 – The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce today the appointment of Katherine Dugmore as the Project Manager for Waterfront Development.

Ms. Dugmore is currently the Manager of the Planning Division for the City of Thunder Bay and will move to her new role on Monday, May 14.

As Manager of Planning, Ms. Dugmore was the City’s lead Administrator working with the consultants who developed the Master Plan and Urban Design Guidelines for Prince Arthur’s Landing, which was the result of an extensive public engagement process.  The Master Plan and Design Guidelines were approved by the Waterfront Development Committee, presented to the public on March 7 and approved by City Council on March 26.

Katherine has been with the City since 2005.  She is no stranger to northern Ontario, having been raised in Kirkland Lake.  She brings to this position over 20 years of experience working in both land development and the public sector as a planner and a landscape architect.  Katherine holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and a Master of Science in Planning and she is the recipient of a number of design awards for her work in urban planning and design.  She has extensive experience in planning and constructing large scale development projects including habitat restoration, plans of subdivision, commercial developments, tourism facilities, recreation trails and parks.   One of those projects is the Terry Fox Monument Site just east of the City.

“We are thrilled that a project manager with Katherine’s skills, experience and talent is moving into this role and will guide the implementation of the Master Plan and Design Guidelines,” said Greg Alexander, General Manager – Community Services.

The Waterfront Development Committee welcomes the appointment, said Chair Mark Bentz. “This appointment is further demonstration that the development of our waterfront is moving steadily forward; I am confident that Ms. Dugmore has the skill set and determination to make this project a reality for our City.”

Leslie McEachern will replace Ms. Dugmore as the Manager of the Planning Division.  Ms. McEachern is currently a Senior Planner within the Division and has played a key role in many land use planning projects as well as other corporate initiatives.
