The Core Area Renewal Programs are financial incentives intended to assist property owners and tenants in the downtown core areas of Thunder Bay to rehabilitate buildings. These financial incentives apply to all properties within the North Side and South Side Renewal Project Areas.
The following financial incentive programs are currently available:
- The Planning & Building Fee Grant Program rebates any application fees paid by a property owners or tenants for building permits or planning approvals, for properties in the downtown community plan areas.
- The Façade Loan Program provides an interest free loan of 50% of the value of the work to a maximum of $15 000 (per unit in a building). The loan is repaid over 10 years.
- The Tax Increment-Based Grant Program rebates any increase in taxes that result from significant improvements to buildings, until the value of the work is reached.
