After graduating from the Interior Design Program at Confederation College and working at various local firms here in their hometown, Brenda Parhiala and Theresa Russell designed their own business with a strong local focus.

Despite all the talk globally of tough economic times, Dusk to Dawn Interiors recently relocated to its third and largest location in 16 years.

“We just grew out of our old space and felt that it was the perfect time to move,” said Parhiala, at the new 5200 sq. foot Memorial Avenue location. “This was the right space and we both felt strongly about it.”

They say local ties are a key to their success. By partnering with local businesses selling flooring, paint, counter-tops and more and focusing on Canadian suppliers for quality products, Parhiala and Russell feel they bring more dollars into the local economy and provide more personalized service with products they know first-hand.

“We strive to provide our customers with everything they need to complete the design vision we come up with,” says Russell. “By working closely with local businesses, we can guarantee our clients get everything on time while strengthening our ties in the community.”

Russell also works with the College to introduce new students to the field of Interior Decorating through courses that include "theory of colour", "principles of design" and "applied design." They keep keep ahead of the continually changing trends within the design community through their professional associations and attend various trade shows and seminars across North America.

Most recently, the company partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help bring in furniture donations as part of Dusk to Dawn’s Grand Opening at the new location.
