World Class Cruising
Thunder Bay’s Great Lakes Cruising strategy is working well.

With the certification of the Pool 6 Lands to operate as a secure marine terminal, the Clelia II made 12 day stops in Thunder Bay in 2009. The Tourism Division reports the following results:
- $600,000 in total economic impact, including passenger and vessel operations, spending, tax revenues generated, capital improvements and economic multipliers of those dollars recirculating through the local economy
- Benefitted over 20 businesses
- Created the equivalent of two full-time jobs
“We are building Thunder Bay into a hub for the growing freshwater expedition cruise shipping industry, and expanding economic impacts to $5 million annually as vessels start and end their cruises here,” said Paul Pepe, Manager of Tourism. “This will generate new opportunities for the tourism, marine and vessel supply industries.”
