Bird Bullet 2009 Tourism Thunder Bay won two awards under the Best Publications Categories at the 2009 Marketing Canada Awards presented at the Economic Development Association of Canada Annual Conference held in Vancouver, British Columbia. The award winning publications were: Win 7 Days with the Giant Postcard Campaign and their monthly Tourism E-Newsletter.
Bird Bullet 2008 Thunder Bay has been recognized by Demographia and the Frontier Centre for Public Policy as an Affordable Housing Market in the Fourth Annual Housing Affordability Survey
Bird Bullet 2008 Superior North EMS received the United Way Platinum Award for their exceptional staff donations in 2007, the only City division to achieve this level. This award is presented to organizations who achieve 90% of employees contributing more than $2 weekly to the charity of their choice via the United Way.

Bird Bullet 2006 Thunder Bay receives Ontario Mainstreet Accessibility Award for "Outstanding achievement in establishing long term community partnerships to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility."
Bird Bullet 2006 Thunder Bay has been identified by the Ontario Municipal Benchmarking Initiative for two "superior energy management practices" leading to substantial energy and cost savings of water and waste water plant operations. Thunder Bay's flow testing model for the City's nearly 3,400 fire hydrants results in significant energy savings by reducing water treatment and pumping required to manually flow test hydrants each year. The City was also recognized for innovation in leak detection in the water distribution system.
