If you see a bear on your property:
- Remember that bears cover a lot of ground looking for food, so it may be just passing by
- Contact the Police by calling 911 if a bear is posing an immediate threat or destroying property
- If the bear continues to linger, contact the Ministry of Natural Resources at 1-866-514-BEAR (2327)
How to prevent Bear Problems:
- Reduce garbage odours by washing garbage cans regularly with a strong disinfectant
- Keep garbage in bear-proof container or in the garage until pick-up day
- Keep pet food inside
- Keep barbecue grills and picnic tables clean
- Do not fill bird feeders until late fall, and empty in the early spring
- Pick all fruit from trees and bushes, and remove fallen fruit form the ground
