The Task Force on City-operated Child Care was formed by City Council in early 2015.  Its purpose is to identify options to improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce the net cost of the City of Thunder Bay's delivery of high-quality child care.  The Task Force will identify considerations and implications associated with each option that they identify and make recommendations to City Council in late 2015.

The Task Force is comprised of eight (8) appointed members representing:

  • City Council - 2 members, including the Children's Advocate
  • Child Care Centre supervisors
  • Child Care Centre employees
  • CUPE Local 87
  • Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board
  • Lakehead Public Schools
  • Ontario Ministry of Education (non-voting)

The task force is supported by Administrative Members and Resources from the Recreation & Culture Division and Financial Services Division.

The local Child Care System Manager, the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) provides information to the Task Force as a resource.
