WHAT IS GIRL POWER?

Girl Power is a place where girls can participate in recreation opportunities, learn about being healthy and boost their self-esteem in a safe and supportive environment. It has recently expanded from an annual conference to a year full events! The additional events will be held throughout the year and will continue to engage girls in being physically active, as well as, provide them with the tools necessary to make informed decisions regarding their overall health and well-being.

WHAT IS THE GIRL POWER CONFERENCE?

An action packed day that features a variety of energizing activities and interactive workshops aimed at helping young women find their passion and follow their dreams. It is a great opportunity for girls to try to new things in a girls-only environment.

WHEN?

The 10th annual Girl Power Conference is happening on Saturday May 11th, 2013 from 9:00am to 4:00pm at Confederation College.

WHO?

The conference is for girls in grades 5-9 and the projected number of participants is over 150 girls! The event is geared to all abilities and skill levels. It is ‘the’ event of the year for young women and provides them with a safe space to get active, learn new skills, meet new friends and have fun doing so!

WHY?

The conference is now in its 10th year! It was originally launched to improve physical activity, leadership development and personal growth among girls. We offer a variety of activities and workshops for young women to try, and every year we expand to offer more exciting activities and unique opportunities for girls. 

COOL GIRL AWARD:

We want to know “What makes girls great!?” Girls can use their creative talents to write a song, short story or poem, paint a picture or take a photograph, the possibilities are endless! Winners will be chosen by their peers at the conference and will receive a cash prize! Entries can be submitted by email to mwalczak@thunderbay.ca or dropped off in person to the Victoriaville Civic Centre.

NEW THIS YEAR:

We are also having a video contest! Send us your 1-2 minute video telling us what makes girls great OR why you are proud to be a girl. Deadline for submissions is May 8th at 4:00pm. To submit your video send an email with a link to your video (on Youtube) to mwalczak@thunderbay.ca OR drop off a copy of the video on a memory stick at the Victoriaville Civic Center, 111 Syndicate Avenue South labeled: Attn: Melisa Walczak. Please include your name, age and phone number on all submissions. Memory sticks will be returned to their owners at the conference. All videos will be reviewed prior to the conference and the winner will be chosen and announced at the conference.
