Chippewa Summer Camps are a Thunder Bay tradition! During every day of camp, children will enjoy making new friends, playing games and simply having fun. Activities are geared to make the most of the natural features and amenities Chippewa Park has to offer. There is a strong focus on nature, the outdoors and active healthy living. Camps are for campers aged 5-13.

Drop off and Pick Up

Drop-off and pick-up is at Volunteer Pool and Churchill Pool (please identify pool at registration).

Drop off: Between 8 am - 9 am (buses leave at 9)

Pick up: Between 4:30 pm - 5 pm

Answers to the Most-Asked Questions About Camps

  • Location: Camps are based at Chippewa Park on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior.
  • PSW: All children and youth are encouraged to take part in Chippewa Summer Camps. If  you are sending your child/youth with a Personal Support Worker, we encourage you to let registration or the program know before your child/youth attends so we are able to help to fully involve your child/youth and their PSW.
  • Junior Inclusion Services(JIS): JIS works with children and youth who have a disability within our programs. If you are interested in accessing JIS, please contact us at 625-3220 before registering for the program. JIS provides free, limited support.
  • Safety: Staff are trained in Standard First Aid, camp and waterfront safety. Your child will enjoy a caring and safe environment. Please pack peanut-free snacks and lunches.
  • Camp Staff: Specially selected for their experience in working with children and their caring child-centered approach, all staff attend a comprehensive training program and obtain HighFive quality assurance certification prior to the start of camp season. 
  • Camp Environment: Campers are placed in age-appropriate groupings. Maximum camper / counsellor ratio is 10 to 1. Each camp has a limit of 30 campers.
  • Transportation: Drop off and pick up is at Volunteer Pool or Churchill Pool (identify which location during registration). Bus transportation to Chippewa Park is provided by an accredited bus company for campers and staff.  
  • Swimming: Campers can participate in a supervised swim at 4 pm at Volunteer or Churchill Pools. Weather dependant, there is also supervised swimming at Sandy Beach near Chippewa Park.

Teens N' Training (tNt) (Ages 14 - 16)

This dynamic course empowers youth volunteers through training, education and leadership development, all with an emphasis on FUN! Develop your confidence and abilities by volunteering at Chippewa Summer Camps. In addition to the training days, you will be required to volunteer for a minimum of 1 week with Summer Camps. Note: to be eligible for this course you must register and complete a Volunteer Application package. For further information, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 625-3169.
