They came, they saw and they most certainly conquered. Conquer the Tower returned this Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Canada Games Complex. The annual fundraiser had brave local participants jumping off the diving platforms in support of PRO Kids and the Thunder Bay Club.

 Mario and Luigi Jumping

Participants are nominated by an employer, coworker or friend to jump from one of the Canada Games Complex platforms based on their level of funds raised. In order to jump from the top 10m Tower, $1000 in pledges must be raised. 15 brave participants were up to the task this year.

Through generous sponsorships and participant pledges, Conquer the Tower raised an amazing $26,948 this year, bringing the events running total to $133,962.
Levaero Aviation returned for the second year as Conquer the Tower’s presenting sponsor. Robert Arnone, CEO and President of Levaero Aviation, is a strong supporter of PRO Kids. “PRO Kids and the Thunder Bay Diving Club provide a treasured service to youth and families in our community,” said Robert Arnone. “Our youth represent our future.  No matter what activities our youth select, it is those activities that build character and teach and develop analytical and strategic thinking skills. As parents, teachers, siblings, coaches, community leaders or business leaders, we not only owe it to our children, we owe it to ourselves to ensure that our children are afforded every opportunity to grow and succeed”.

PRO Kids and the Thunder Bay Diving Club are thrilled with Conquer the Tower’s continued success over the years. Both organizations would like to thank our sponsors, including:

Training with a Pro: the Baseball Edition hit it out of the park on Sunday, Aug. 20. The newest addition to the Training with a Pro series saw 29 youth practice their baseball skills alongside former local baseball pros. The fundraiser also generated over $1,400 in support of PRO Kids.

The clinic ran for four and a half hours on Sunday at George Burke Park. Local former pros Chris Toneguzz(Milwaukee Brewers Organization), Bob Jesperson (Cincinnati Reds Organization) and Dan Grant (Northern Iowa Panthers) led participants through drills that focused on pitching, hitting and positioning. The day was then wrapped up with a game of baseball.

PRO Kids would like to thank and recognize presenting sponsor Tbaytel.

2017 will mark the 13th year that Tbaytel has been collecting and recycling unwanted cellphones to support PRO Kids. That means when you bring your old devices to be recycled at a location listed below, the proceeds will place Thunder Bay children and youth into recreational programs.

Recycle your cellphones

It's a simple concept but the impact is tremendous. The initiative raised over $1,200 in 2016.

The public is encouraged to bring their broken, used, or unwanted cellphones to the following locations:

                   -     Tbaytel Retail Store, 959 Fort William Rd
                   -     The Power Centre, 707 Memorial Ave
                   -     Touch Unwired, 1080 Lithium Dr
                   -     Touch Unwired, 540 Arthur St

In addition, cellphones may be dropped off at PRO Kids in the Community Services Department at the Victoriaville Civic Centre to be brought to one of the authorized locations above.

PRO Kids would like to thank Tbaytel for their support, and their continued commitment to giving back to our local community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer work available through P.R.O. Kids - assisting with administrative and organizational tasks. P.R.O. Kids facilitates placing children in community programs that are run by other organizations, but does not actually interact with the children we support.

Fall Placement Support

Over half of the applications received in one year arrive in the fall. This is an especially busy time for the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator. Extra support is needed to place children into fall programs in a timely fashion. This is a short-term volunteer position involving 20 hours a week for four weeks beginning mid-August and ending in mid-September. Interested? Call the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212.

Event Planning

On occasion, larger-scale events are scheduled, and the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator requires additional support. These are short-term in nature to assist in the planning relating to one specific event (e.g., Family Skating Events, Mayor’s Mulligan). Interested in helping? Call the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212.

Alternatively, if you would like to volunteer by helping at events, contact the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212 and add your name to the P.R.O. Kids Event Team list today!

P.R.O. Kids Board of Directors

The P.R.O. Kids Board Members are residents of the City of Thunder Bay and represent a wide range of interests and expertise. For more information, refer to the Board page.

P.R.O. Kids Fundraising Committee

This is a very active group that meets once a month. Members oversee fundraising through activities & events, dress-down days, merchandise sales, and direct approaches, as well as grants and funding opportunities. New members are welcome at any time during the year. Interested? Call the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212.
