CALLING ON THUNDER BAY: RECYCLE YOUR CELLPHONES WITH TBAYTEL TO HELP PRO KIDS

2017 will mark the 13th year that Tbaytel has been collecting and recycling unwanted cellphones to support PRO Kids. That means when you bring your old devices to be recycled at a location listed below, the proceeds will place Thunder Bay children and youth into recreational programs.

Recycle your cellphones

It's a simple concept but the impact is tremendous. The initiative raised over $1,200 in 2016.

The public is encouraged to bring their broken, used, or unwanted cellphones to the following locations:

                   -     Tbaytel Retail Store, 959 Fort William Rd
                   -     The Power Centre, 707 Memorial Ave
                   -     Touch Unwired, 1080 Lithium Dr
                   -     Touch Unwired, 540 Arthur St

In addition, cellphones may be dropped off at PRO Kids in the Community Services Department at the Victoriaville Civic Centre to be brought to one of the authorized locations above.

PRO Kids would like to thank Tbaytel for their support, and their continued commitment to giving back to our local community.

For more information please contact Laura Daniele, PRO Kids Coordinator at 625-3212 or prokids@thunderbay.ca

Conquer the Tower

Conquer the Tower made a big splash this Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Canada Games Complex. The annual fundraiser saw 17 brave participants take the plunge in support of P.R.O. Kids and the Thunder Bay Diving Club.

Local businesses nominated an employee who agreed to jump from one of the Canada Games Complex platforms based on their level of funds raised. The top jump off the 10 metre tower saw participants raise $1,000 in pledges. The majority of this year’s participants were proudly able to conquer this considerable plunge.

Through sponsorships and pledges, Conquer the Tower 2016 raised $28,889 which brings the event’s five-year running total to $107,002.

Conquer the Tower 2016 was presented by Levaero Aviation. "I have had the privilege of working with the organizing committee for the past few months," said Robert Arnone, CEO and President of Levaero Aviation. "working with this group is truly an honour. Their dedication is second to none and it thrills us to be a part of this event. I have had the opportunity to see first-hand the difference PRO Kids can make in a child's life. Supporting our youth is not an option, it's our obligation and we are proud to do our part by sponsoring this fantastic event."

training with a pro

What another fantastic year for Training with a Pro! Tuesday, Aug. 16 marked our last dry land training clinic for 2016. Each of the four clinics featured a local NHL Hockey pro who trained and played alongside children and youth ages 6-16. After all the hard work participants were given the opportunity to have a photo taken with their pro and walked away with an autographed card and a big smile.

Thank you to our pros Mackenzie Blackwood, Matt Murray, Carter Hutton and Robert Bortuzzo as well as our wonderful volunteers and our sponsors Bur-Met Contracting, Superior Crossfit, and Puckshots.

Keep an eye out next year for this awesome event.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer work available through P.R.O. Kids - assisting with administrative and organizational tasks. P.R.O. Kids facilitates placing children in community programs that are run by other organizations, but does not actually interact with the children we support.

Fall Placement Support

Over half of the applications received in one year arrive in the fall. This is an especially busy time for the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator. Extra support is needed to place children into fall programs in a timely fashion. This is a short-term volunteer position involving 20 hours a week for four weeks beginning mid-August and ending in mid-September. Interested? Call the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212.

Event Planning

On occasion, larger-scale events are scheduled, and the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator requires additional support. These are short-term in nature to assist in the planning relating to one specific event (e.g., Family Skating Events, Mayor’s Mulligan). Interested in helping? Call the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212.

Alternatively, if you would like to volunteer by helping at events, contact the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212 and add your name to the P.R.O. Kids Event Team list today!

P.R.O. Kids Board of Directors

The P.R.O. Kids Board Members are residents of the City of Thunder Bay and represent a wide range of interests and expertise. For more information, refer to the Board page.

P.R.O. Kids Fundraising Committee

This is a very active group that meets once a month. Members oversee fundraising through activities & events, dress-down days, merchandise sales, and direct approaches, as well as grants and funding opportunities. New members are welcome at any time during the year. Interested? Call the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 625-3212.
