Skating - Instructional

LEARN TO SKATE & POWER SKATING ProgramS, Winter 2012

A favourite with families, the instructional skating program provides a structured approach to learning and improving skating skills for children and adults. Lessons for children are 20 minutes. Lessons for adults are 50 minutes long. Classes began in September. Watch for the Winter 2012 issue of The Key for updated skating program information.

Parent information session:
Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at 7 pm

Oliver Road Recreation Centre (563 Oliver Road)
This is for parents of children new to Learn to Skate programs. Topics to be covered include program formats, progress reports, equipment, questions and answers. 

Equipment Information
Lace-up single-blade skates must be sharpened prior to the first class. For safety, CSA-approved hockey helmets with chin strap and full face masks are mandatory. Bicycle helmets are not permitted. No shoes or boots are allowed on the ice. Parents or guardians must remain in the arena while lessons are in progress.

Please Note: 48 hours prior to the first lesson, parents or guardians will be contacted with their child's exact lesson time.

Inclusion Services
If you are registering for a skating program, have a disability, and could use some extra help in the program, please let us know when you register. Inclusion Services is available to provide limited support to you free of charge.  Call 625-2930 for more information.
