Parking

parkingThe Parking Authority operates and maintains 15 surface parking lots and two parking structures as well as 1,525 metered parking spaces. The Parking Authority administers parking enforcement using contract security personnel. Enforcement helps to ensure that motorists follow parking restrictions established for traffic safety, traffic flow, street maintenance, parking turnover and the convenience of residents.

Unless otherwise posted, there is a maximum of 48 hours' parking on City streets. No parking is allowed under the following conditions:

  • within three metres of a fire hydrant
  • in an area that would block a driveway or laneway
  • on private property without the owner's permission
  • in a disabled area without a permit
  • where a No Parking sign is posted.

Winter Restrictions

Winter parking restrictions apply to all streets within City boundaries where signage is posted, regardless of current weather conditions. The restrictions are necessary to ensure effective winter maintenance. On priority routes, signs are posted to indicate No Parking from 2 am to 7 am from Nov. 15 to April 30*. This ensures these routes are open for service and emergency vehicles. On streets where parking is allowed, Calendar Parking applies from Nov. 15 to March 31*. If the sign indicates No Parking, and the word Odd, parking is not allowed on odd calendar days between 9 am and 5 pm. If the sign says No Parking and the word Even, parking is not allowed on even calendar days between 9 am and 5 pm.

*Start and end dates for Winter Parking Restrictions may change with the weather conditions. Look for announcements.
