Race Relations
The City of Thunder Bay services a multiracial and multicultural society. It considers the presence of people from a wide range of racial, ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds to be a source of enrichment and strength. It firmly believes that its diverse public has a significant role in influencing municipal decisions and participating in Municipal Government as well as the life of the entire community. The City of Thunder Bay adopted a Race Relations Policy in 1996, committed to the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination in 2006, created the Anti-Racism Advisory Committee in 2010 and launched a community-wide respect. initiative in 2012. The Corporation participates in activities that seek to enhance and foster respect, understanding and co-operation among racial, cultural, ethnic and community groups dealing with the Corporation, and is a member of Diversity Thunder Bay whose mission is to foster an equitable community free of racism and discrimination.
