Recycling
Blue bag recyclable items can be set out for curbside collection in blue/clear plastic bags on your regular recycling day. Check your Waste Management Collection Schedule for your recycling date. There is no limit on the number of recycling bags that can be set out for recycling collection.
Blue bag recyclable items can also be brought to the Recycling Depots. Remember to sort them first.
The City has three recycling depots:
- Mountdale Recycling Depot, located on the corner of Mountdale Avenue and Walsh Street
- Front Street Recycling Depot, located between McIntryre Street and Van Horne Street
- City of Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Facility Recycling Depot, turn right before you cross the scales

Leaf and yard waste is collected twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. Look for the leaf symbol on your Waste Management Collection Schedule for your collection date. Place leaf and yard waste in kraft (paper) bags or clear plastics bags at the curb beside your recyclables on your collection date. Kraft bags are best as they are compostable too. Leaf and yard waste can also be brought to the Leaf and Yard Waste Compost Laydown Area at the City of Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Facility.
The Household Hazardous Waste Depot is open year round, the same operating hours as the City of Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Facility, located beside the recycling depot. There is no charge to residents using the Household Hazardous Waste Depot.
