The
Zoning By-law divides the entire city into land use zones that specify the uses permitted in that zone and the applicable regulations. In addition to permitted uses, the Zoning By-law regulates the height, location and size of buildings; establishes minimum lot areas and frontages for new building lots; and establishes the minimum number of parking spaces and the minimum amount of landscaped open space that must be provided for various uses.
Land use Zones can be viewed online using the Zoning By-law map. If you wish to change or amend the zoning regulations that apply to your property, you should contact staff in the City's Planning Division who can explain the amendment process. Any changes to the regulations of the By-law must be approved by City Council; however, if the change is only a minor variation from the regulations, it can be considered by the Committee of Adjustment.
A new Comprehensive Zoning By-law was adopted by City Council on Oct. 18, 2010.
