Heritage Events

We celebrate our heritage through events held throughout the year.

Doors Open Thunder Bay

In September, historically significant sites in Thunder Bay open their doors to the public free of charge. Doors Open Thunder Bay is a community event designed to attract the public's interest in the preservation, protection and promotion of Ontario's built, natural and cultural heritage.  This local event is being conducted in accordance with the Ontario Heritage Foundation's provincial wide standards for Doors Open events which are held in over one hundred communities across Ontario.  The aim of this event is to encourage residents and visitors alike to learn about Thunder Bay's rich heritage through tours of private homes, commercial buildings, government buildings, churches, and other heritage sites which are not normally open to the public.

Doors Open 2010 will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The Doors Open Thunder Bay Committee will prepare historical information about the property, coordinator volunteers to secure the property and assist people with answering questions.
