Superior by Nature

On the shores of the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area, Thunder Bay lies within a spectacular natural environment. Clean air, clear lakes, beautiful forest ecosystems, and wildlife all make Thunder Bay a wonderful place to live, work, and enjoy the outdoors. To ensure our environmental resources can be enjoyed both today and for generations to come, the City of Thunder Bay seeks sustainable solutions to create a clean, green, beautiful and proud city. The City's Infrastructure & Operations Department oversees most operations within the Corporation that relate to the environment.

EARTHCARE Thunder Bay 2014-2020 sustainability plan

This Sustainability Plan and its implementation has been essential as the City of Thunder Bay developed its comprehensive Climate Adaptation Strategy, completed and approve in principle by City Council in 2015. These two documents and the initiatives they embody build community resilience by reducing the risks of a changing climate, and taking advantage of opportunities associated with current and future impacts of climate change.
