Grasscycling
Recycle grass clippings by leaving them on your lawn instead of raking and throwing them away. Grass clippings are a natural, nutrient-rich fertilizer that’s good for your lawn. Grasscycling saves you time, reduces waste and promotes a healthy root system. Best of all, it gives you more time to relax and enjoy the summer! Grass clippings are not accepted in the City’s Leaf & Yard Waste Composting Program.
Spring/Fall Collection
Once in the spring and again in the fall, place your leaves, bundled branches, and garden waste out for curbside pickup. Look for the leaf symbol on your garbage collection calendar for your leaf & yard waste collection day. Use only clear plastic bags or kraft (paper) bags. Kraft bags are the preferred option as they are biodegradable and can be placed directly into the compost pile. Kraft bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores.
Leaf & Yard Waste Curbside Collection for spring 2012 took place between Tuesday, May 1 and Friday, May 11. Fall curbside collection will begin on Thursday Nov. 1, 2012 to Thursday Nov. 15, 2012.
Check your Waste Collection Calendar for your collection day.
These materials are taken to the City of Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Facility and made into soil-enriching compost.
You can deliver compostable materials such as leaves, shrubs and branches directly to the landfill site compost area. No grass clippings please.
