Tree Stewardship Program

Sustaiing Our Urban Forest

REQUEST A TREE OPTIONS

Currently, Thunder Bay residents have three options for receiving a boulevard tree:

  1. Call City Dispatch (625-2195) and ask to be put on the two-year waiting list, and the City will provide a tree at no cost to you (see Request a Tree).
  2. Call City Dispatch (625-2195) to obtain approval to plant a large-caliper tree yourself, and pay the full cost (approximately $500) for a 50mm diameter tree and have it planted before too long (tax receipt provided by City). Those who do receive permission will be required to obtain utility locates (www.on1call.com). (See Request a Tree.)
  3. Purchase a tree through the Tree Stewardship Program by paying for only 1/3 of the cost, and receive a tree the next planting season (spring or fall). Tax receipt provided.

Cost of New Trees UNDER THE TREE STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM

Under this Program, the cost of new trees is shared in three equal portions between:

Tree Stewardship Program

  1. The requesting landowner
  2. The City's Parks & Open Spaces Section
  3. A pool of funds derived from donations, sponsorships and grants from Governments, businesses and corporations

Tax receipts are issued to individuals who pay for the full cost of trees as well as those who receive trees through the Tree Stewardship Program. Sponsors/donors who contribute to the Tree Stewardship Program will also receive tax receipts.
