55 PLUS RECREATION: OLDER ADULT CENTRES
The City's Recreation & Culture Division operates two Older Adult Centres for persons 55 and over:
Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre on the north side and Herb Carroll 55 Plus Centre on the south side.
Both Centres offer recreational, educational and volunteer opportunities as well as valuable services. Recreation programs are provided by professionally trained instructors knowledgeable in their program area. Quality programs that promote skill development and active living are offered seasonally. Watch for issues of "The Key" that highlight exciting programs in: Visual Arts, Fitness, General Interest, Computer Lessons, Workshops and much more. In addition, daily activities such as cards, billiards, badminton, line dancing, shuffleboard, dances, etc. are scheduled throughout the week.
Among the services offered at both Centres are Income Tax assistance, foot care clinics and diabetes health counselling, in addition to health-related information sessions. The Support Services area located in the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre also co-ordinates the Friendly Visiting, Telephone Assurance and Walk-A-Bit program to Older Adults in the Community.
