Joanne Hnatiw is considered to be the heart and soul of the Thunder Bay Police Youth Corps. For the past six years, Joanne has volunteered her time with the Corps. By attending monthly Board of Directors meetings, weekly cadet meetings and she liaises with coordinators of events prior to, during and after each event. Some of these events include Remembrance Day Services, Christmas Parade, Parade of Lights, Mayor’s Walk
and the Terry Fox Run. She takes great care to ensure the absolute safety of the cadets. She treats each teen with extraordinary patience, kindness and tolerance.

Over the course of four years, cadets can contribute over 150 hours of volunteer work to their community with the Corps alone and Joanne is always there. Not only has Joanne dedicated all her spare time to overseeing the Corps, she has had even recruited her family to help out. Joanne exemplifies the phrase: “Lead by Example”.
