Throughout Michael Kopot’s 15 years with the Alzheimer’s Society of Thunder Bay, he has taken on many roles and duties, including those of President. He has been very active in special events, public awareness and family support. His greatest impact on the Society has been the design and implementation of the Men’s Breakfast Club. This group provides information and support to male caregivers of people with dementia. He has been the co-facilitator of the group, which meets twice a month. He has persevered with the group during difficult times, and creatively assists the group to adapt to the needs of its members. Many other Alzheimer Society Chapters have used Michael’s research paper, written in 2001, as a guide to implementing similar programs. Michael’s dedicated efforts have assisted not only his own community but also those in need of support outside of Thunder Bay.
