Lynda and Barry Lahteenmaa

Lynda and Barry are active volunteers at Hogarth Riverview Manor.  They have been instrumental in bringing the "Gardens" back to life.  The mission for both Lynda and Barry has been to involve residents in making the gardens a place for all to enjoy.  With the assistance of the volunteer team, who have been motivated through Lynda's teaching and hands-on guidance, the gardens have never looked so beautiful.  While Lynda teaches and demonstrates and chooses the right plants for the gardens, Barry is self-directed, picks up his tools and off to work he goes.  The gardens have many benefits for the residents including improved social, mental and spiritual health.  Barry is also very active as a volunteer with Scouts Canada, T-Ball, Barbershop singers and Harmony Bay and for 22 years with the Thunder Bay City Band.  Linda, a Master Gardener, led a Horticultural Therapy program at Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital for four years and was the Master Garden Coordinator for Thunder Bay Garden Tours for eight years.  Citizen commitment is important to both Lynda and Barry who are compassionate and caring in their volunteer work with the residents at Hogarth Riverview Manor.
