Monthly awards are presented to an individual, team or organization for outstanding achievement and contribution to the City of Thunder Bay. Recipients must have received Provincial, National or International recognition for their achievement. This presentation takes place on the first Monday of the month at City Council meetings.
These awards are presented annually at a special meeting of Committee of the Whole, solely for the recognition of public service achievements in all areas of community life.
Spirit of Thunder Bay Award
This special award recognizes individuals who have shown extraordinary leadership, innovation and meaningful voluntary contributions. These are individuals whose volunteerism has improved and enriched the community of Thunder Bay. In addition, a minimum of 15 years of cumulative documented volunteer service in Thunder Bay is required to be considered for this award.
Good Citizen Award
This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding volunteer contributions in Thunder Bay for a minimum of five years. The contributions may be cumulative volunteer work not necessarily with one single organization or group. Groups and organizations whose volunteer activities contribute to the betterment of the community may be recognized with this award on the occasion of their 10th, 25th and 50th years of service.
Youth Award
This award recognizes an individual, up to the age of 21 years old, who, for a minimum of two years, has increased the profile of youth in the Thunder Bay community through volunteer contributions that enrich Thunder Bay’s quality of life. All community service must be completed outside of school. Educational facilities can nominate only one student. Two years of documented community service hours outside of the mandated 40 hours, must accompany the nomination form.
